Tactical Sniper
Decided to bite the big bore bullet and ordered a Evanix Tactical Sniper in .357 last night the after santa 10% discount made it hard to resist.
I friend that I converted to air guns had just gotten a Rainstorm 3D bullpup, was a hoot to shoot so I had to get my own, didn’t want the same thing, couldn’t afford the semi autos so went with the sniper. :4:
Already trying to figure out how to make it more neighbor friendly 😯

My gun just took a dump my ears are still ringing 😯
I had just sat down to shoot my 3rd mag of the day over the chrono trying to get the thing to shoot a consistent string, 3rd shot in BOOOOOMM big blast of air hits me in the face WTF!
Tank is empty, look in the guide slot and pull back the hammer a bit, no sign of the valve stem its gone
gun has been shooting pretty inconsistently since I got it, shots where any where from 20 fps to 50 fps different, guess that should have been a clue.
I haven’t touched the valve area yet, only polished the hammer, I’ve drilled number of holes in the shroud to work with my extension, not sure how that is going to affect getting this thing fixed
FUCK! 👿
Just missed being able to call Pyramid about it, sent an email, guess I’ll have to wait and see what if anything they’ll do.
Might just give me the excuse to make a new valve :4:
The way the shroud is mounted it doesn’t allow for any air flow behind the muzzle making it merely a decoration, My shroud extension goes back behind the muzzle so I decided to drill some holes in the shroud to take advantage of that extra air space. seems to work well as the gun is quieter and there is a lot of lead dust in that area now.
I’m using the muzzle break to keep everything lined up and act as a bit of a stripper
Nice! 😀

Huuuh? I thought I alread did that! You Guy’s are S-L-O-W!!!!!

Put some lead down range from 50 yards out to get a good idea how much the fire lapping will help out, I was surprised by the 95 gr HP in .356, they did better than the 105s by a wide margin.
Where under 25 yrds it seems to be the opposite.
going to shoot some 95 gr. HP in .358 tomorrow and maybe re-shoot some 105s
Fire lapping kit will be here Thursday, hope to use it Sunday.
then it’s time to shoot some groups then start tuning.
need to insert a de-pinger, really tempted to tear the gun down when I degas it – want to see what the guts look like and see if there is any place I can easily smooth out the flows or increase them
Thanks for the pics!! They will help! This post is geeting good!! Keep the info and pics coming!! Ced: I was waaay ahead of you on suggesting a .257 conversion! 😆
LOL, New billing cycle so I decided to risk the wraith of the all mighty CFO :butkick:
Got a wheeler fire lapping kit on the way, should be able to do it this weekend.
If the only other purchase I make this cycle is gas I should be safe :biggrinn:
In the meantime I’ll get a good set of “before” groups to see if it was worth the risk and money
It’s been shooting well so I’ll stretch out the range to 50 to get a real idea of what it is capable of, hope to get it reasonably good so I can use it on rock chucks this spring. Most of my shooting is 40 to 60 yards out.
Got a couple of 90 gr epp/ug cast boolits, looks promising so far, I’ll save the rest until after I fire lap it.
If they work well I’ll have to get into casting 😎
lol
You can also just buy a container of JB BORE paste and apply it to a patch and polish that bore. I do know that fire lap kits are more expensive than a tub of JB BORE PASTE.
ALL you need is a cleaning rod, the proper brush or jag, some patches and jb bore paste. And then you just STROKE…..STROKE….STROKE…….STROKE….lol!
Thanks Tofazfou, thats on my list, was reading roachcreek’s old posts on the subject. Got my eye on a fire lapping kit as soon as my CFO won’t notice 😀
the rifle is my birthday present (which is in May LOL) need to keep the expenditures down for a bit….
Very nice DW. I can tell you though, when it comes to air guns, you gotta scrub them barrels with either JB bore past or fire lap em. Airguns bores are pretty rough when new.
This is a great post…………..
That might be a fun project sometime in the future 😀
Hummm! Seems it would be a natural for a .257 barrel. I’ll bet it could launch the 54 adn 60 grain .257’s I’m casting here Very-Very Well! 😉

Got in a fair amount of shooting today, ran some over the chrono 95 gr Hp peaked at 777 fps and 127 fpe
105 gr fp peaked at 730 fps and 124 fpe
forgot to run the JSBs, next time I guess.
was having a hard time with the chrono, probably only got 4 out of 7 shots and they seem to be on a steady decline, so peak might actually be higher that what I recorded, never seemed to get the first shot.
I drilled out the shroud behind the barrel and a smaller exit hole by the receiver. according to my little db app its only 70db’s my friends 3D is 98 db :8:
also the pressure change or maybe the new o-ring changed things as all my pellets are basically hitting the same POA where as before the 105’s where hitting way left.
target on the left is the JSBs and target on the right 90 gr epp/ug – gigantic improvement from the last outing. granted this was at only 20 yards but its promising.
over all I’m feeling much better about this gun 😎
