traxxas E-Revo 1:10 brushless
it arrived yesterday, i ordered it as soon as i had sold enough stuff…but it seems like they are in short supply most places, and where its available they want nearly 700 bucks for it….so i ended up canceling the truck at thebarnfloor.com who had it for 609….and went ebay for 660 with 8% bing cashback….making it 608 incl shipping
bought 4 packs of zippy 3S 25C 5000mah batteries and a 8 cell charger for lipo….charger can be programmed in tons of ways, and it does balance charging and all including temp probe
also ordered castle link which allows me to program the ESC, and theres a lot of stuff to change….like braking, acceleration curve, how much initial power it can draw and much more
anyhow the truck….well buggy….no truck…had it not been for the monster truck wheels i would call it a buggy with such a streamlined body and all
its all very nicely laid out…and came completely ready to run…i dropped 8AA into the transmitter, and loaded 2 lipos….and off i went driving a bit carefull….but its very hard not to try see what it can do.
before programming it….it was VERY agressive, launching wheelies as soon as you added more power, allmost hard to keep the front down….it has tons of body roll, and the gear train could sound nicer….but it all works….breakes was set at 50%, which is like a sloppy 1:8 nitro buggy brake, upped it to 75% which is enough to make a stoppie, so i lowered it to 70% which gives lots of breaking, but only does stoppies when max brakes are applied and surface allows it.
this truck should come with a center diff, why they dont dump that 25$ item in there from the start is a mystery to me….with all the wheelie power it would be nice with a centerdiff to transfer the power forward once the front lifts off
second i wish they had used bolts on some of the screws….they just thread into plastic, and is way easy to overtighten, even with great care taken…
third….i would have liked it as a kit….you learn so much from assembling it your self….not i have to guess what to take appart for access a certain part
i got center diff ordered, but it hasnt showed up yet….and i ordered a sway bar kit….this kit is a must ! it helps soooooo much
one tire has allready shredded 🙄 i hope some glue will hold it together so i can get a few more miles out of it
i put my old digital camera on it….it has a lens housing for extra lenses so i though that would protect it …and it did….but the ride was too rough i guess for it to keep recording…it kept ending up with format error….i really wish i had recorded there was some spetacular crashes 🙂

as you know my axles are bust or close to it…so i wrote traxxas asking if this is normal…..mind you they say the truck is fine for 6S, strong and ready for brushless power etc etc….
That kind of damage is not a warranty issue It is caused by too much
throttle. If you do not exercise throttle control you will continue to
break parts. That is part of owning and operating a skill level 5
vehicle. I am sending you two rear axle shafts (to your registration
address) to help get you going again. Future parts will need to come
through your hobby shop.

hmmm, i have not abused it really….sure i have seen how fast it could accelerate a couple of times….and punch is needed if you want to wheelie
they even got an article on their own webpage telling folks to get summit axles for better endurance.
ohh well nice of them to send me a couple of axles now i will have spares…in case their steel ones break…maybe i will machine some out of stainless steel

yessir, had to beg to my knees bled, and perform a series of sexual favors …but i was allowed to spend the 60$ on those, and special cups needed because i run the offset rear arms.

set the truck up for front wheel drive….ran it for 2 minutes…it just cant get the power to ground…
and here i thought i could go out and have the roads all to my self…but no….
ohh well doggy got a walk…and the civic got a mountain drive on the small twisted roads….nice of people to stay indoors and watch the game
had the glue gun out…..cut the front window out and bend it back…now air comes through the window and is directed down on the motor and esc….should help cool it a bit…fine mesh should help keep debris out
cut out a grille in the back too…didnt go to well
castle creation speed control comes with a stupid grille that allows way to big chunks of stuff to get in there and jam it…so that is getting a fine mesh grille on top of it as well….hopefully this new system will last a bit longer
also added for night time driving is a light setup
rear bumber with low brakelight when driving, and high bright when braking
2 sets of front lights a set on the chassis and a set on the body…led’s are pretty bright but the system is not powerfull enough to pull even one 1W led, so im adding some 15-18K mcd white ones in time….got wiring harnesses soldered today…need a small plug that i dont know whats called….bet they have them at hobbytown usa
i need to add more lights, there should be some led’s in the mail soon…indicator LEDS, more back and front lights….maybe some ground effects for the fun of it….
had the truck out with my bald proline 3.2″ MT tires on ½” offset beadlocks…now the truck can drive straight
was able to make 3 passes first two i got it to 82km/h, braking/accelerating bald offroad tires that are round like a motorcycle tire so it drives more or less on a narrow patch on the middle of the tire, alot of camper on the rear tires allowed me to get a more contact….but when braking the tires might as well been made out of hard plastic….especially on a damp spot on the road…which slided the car right into traffic …whoops….learned that it needs alot of braking distance when slowing from 80+kmh…accelerating is something done relatively slowly or the back end will step out, and truck head for the nearest curb…..which it did and there went another endpiece of the toelink….gdamnit
cool thing about the bald tires is when it goes wrong and a slide is enduced…it doesnt flip, but just slides….which is nice when you have 200$ gps onboard
wish i had a radar….cause the gps requires 2-3 second to measure speed…..and keeping the car controlled under top speed for that long is actually quite hard, and i run out of space really fast BUT i did get a topspeed of [color=red]84.9kmh or 52.7mph[/color] with an 18/54 gearing and 6S, so upping the battery from 3S to 6S basicly doubled the speed ….traxxas says 50+ mph with that gearing and 4S…so maybe motor is just running at top rpm, and gearing is needed to up the speed
wonder higher rated lipo batteries would add top speed, got 25C right now with a burst of 35C for 10 secs (so they say) and speed run is normally under 10 secs
im so amazed that a few runs up down the road acumulate to 3km (2 miles)
right now i actually like running 3s its just easier and plenty for the backyard small track

that is nuts….dont see why they need radio control….i mean the wire keeps it on track….and the engine just goes nut….must be fun if your into tuning engines, bodyshapes and stuff…..
my new revo setup seems more nuts than ever….the 1.6″ offset rear arms works wonder…no more wheelies….yay….ok wheelies are cool…but only for so long 😉
it seems like this hobby is just like it used to be….yo drive…fly….break stuff and head for the hobby store….
so today i tried to shoot some new 6S video with the go-pro camera mounted onboard…..sure i did get some video, but its disappointing
i set the truck really low…..soft suspension to soak up the bumps…..changed tires from those awefull stock traxxas ones to maximiser beadlocks and proline bowtie (which are bald now so perfectly suited for pavement)
ok so i got some really good high speed runs….BUT camera got so shaky it no better than yesterdays video, but at least the truck stayed on course….those traxxas tires are going in the bin…worthless….there should be more radial tires or something simelar with fibres in the rubber to keep them from balooning and give a stiffer carcass….theres only so much firm foam can do….
ohh for the record theres no problems on 3S where the truck perform like a cool electric, but no surprises ….4S and you get a touch of insanity in the mix…but mostly controllable….but then 6S and it gets all insane… acceleration is nuts….top speed is nuts….
ok back to the video…did some really cool crashes….but of course the camera didnt get them….one time the SD card was ejected allthough in its waterproof case….the waterproof case cracked, and camera slided some 20-30 yards down the road and nearly got run over…..sigh…..wonder if it the mouont of the camera (made with velcro) thats the problem with the shakyness or the fact that is connected directly to the chassis….unlike former videos where camera has been mounted with rubber bands and foam to isolate vibrations….
ohh well on a simple run today….i broke the rear suspension, an 1 rod end for the suspension….the camera case…..2 original revo tires …..quick tour to hobby store USA….and its all fixed i hope…..
