traxxas E-Revo 1:10 brushless
it arrived yesterday, i ordered it as soon as i had sold enough stuff…but it seems like they are in short supply most places, and where its available they want nearly 700 bucks for it….so i ended up canceling the truck at thebarnfloor.com who had it for 609….and went ebay for 660 with 8% bing cashback….making it 608 incl shipping
bought 4 packs of zippy 3S 25C 5000mah batteries and a 8 cell charger for lipo….charger can be programmed in tons of ways, and it does balance charging and all including temp probe
also ordered castle link which allows me to program the ESC, and theres a lot of stuff to change….like braking, acceleration curve, how much initial power it can draw and much more
anyhow the truck….well buggy….no truck…had it not been for the monster truck wheels i would call it a buggy with such a streamlined body and all
its all very nicely laid out…and came completely ready to run…i dropped 8AA into the transmitter, and loaded 2 lipos….and off i went driving a bit carefull….but its very hard not to try see what it can do.
before programming it….it was VERY agressive, launching wheelies as soon as you added more power, allmost hard to keep the front down….it has tons of body roll, and the gear train could sound nicer….but it all works….breakes was set at 50%, which is like a sloppy 1:8 nitro buggy brake, upped it to 75% which is enough to make a stoppie, so i lowered it to 70% which gives lots of breaking, but only does stoppies when max brakes are applied and surface allows it.
this truck should come with a center diff, why they dont dump that 25$ item in there from the start is a mystery to me….with all the wheelie power it would be nice with a centerdiff to transfer the power forward once the front lifts off
second i wish they had used bolts on some of the screws….they just thread into plastic, and is way easy to overtighten, even with great care taken…
third….i would have liked it as a kit….you learn so much from assembling it your self….not i have to guess what to take appart for access a certain part
i got center diff ordered, but it hasnt showed up yet….and i ordered a sway bar kit….this kit is a must ! it helps soooooo much
one tire has allready shredded 🙄 i hope some glue will hold it together so i can get a few more miles out of it
i put my old digital camera on it….it has a lens housing for extra lenses so i though that would protect it …and it did….but the ride was too rough i guess for it to keep recording…it kept ending up with format error….i really wish i had recorded there was some spetacular crashes 🙂

got my 15$ light kit sort of mounted….brakelight is dim until car brakes, then they brighten up just like a real car 😉 front light do the same kinda stupid so i put it in 100% mode all the time….got indicator lights as well, but not mounted as i blew the left side connecting them to a apparently to powerfull battery 3.7v lipo….
2 sets of headlights….some pretty bright LEDs, makes driving in the dark easy…well on road at least, cause they dont light up the street much…might go all out and get a couple of cree r2’s or q5 on it…..
got my first speed reading 44.2km/h…thats 27 mph…not as much as i thought i would be stock 18t motorgear, and 54t spur, stock wheels, once motor has had enough time breaking in its gonna get full 6S and we’ll see what it will get….got a new 23T maingear comming…right now its easy to hear that it gets up to speed real fast and then theres just no more juice…(battery are flightmax 3S 25C 5A)…who would have thought a couple speed passes up and down the street would add up to 1.35km
well it only took a month 😯 for me to get motor and ESC back(covered under warrenty)….2 screws missing, plugs from the old system just cut off and placed i box….so i had to solder those fuckers off 10 guage wires, with my small solderin iron….what a pain in the ass…..ESC has a wierd smell i wonder if its a former burnt unit….or just that new ESC smell
motor got pretty warm on some 3S bashing really quick before it got dark…maybe it justs need to wear in a bit
while i was at it i made a plug that simply shorts one of the two plugs so i can run one pack at a time….actually quite powerfull like that…..only thing i miss is the extra power when truck is jumped to level the car out, and a bit of punch is lagging….but its just one pack for such a large truck
i do actually have wireless cameras….that can run of a 9v….so in theory i could do what you propose hehe….dont know how it would work out though they are on .24ghz too like the car….when ever i turn one on the wireless network speed drops to like 10% of whats possible 🙂 you could call them a WiFi jammer
im gonna replace the front window on the truck with some metal mesh for increased airflow, maybe do some ducting so motor and esc gets fresh air….
i dont know if 6S is too much, i love having all that power….i rarely use it all except when im in the park, but those batteries last a looooong time when i dont go all out all of the time
worst part is thats its only geared with what came in the box…18 to 54 tooth nothing spetacular….think it was 63 spur gear it was mounted with….so 54 aint far off and just made it more agressive….i ordered a 24tooch gear…but it never showed, and now im not even sure i even wanna try set a speed record, think im just gonna gear it down to original…and have fun with that
Yeah, 6s is a LOT of power, I find that 4s is almost too much for backyard bashing.
That onboard camera should be very cool,especially if you hit jumps and stuff with it. Then all you need to do is get a transmitter with a video screen, so you can drive like super far away out of site looking at The screen. That would be pretty sick.
Too bad about the center diff, I have read that they really only work for like dirt racing. Besides, you are bashing with the thing and wheelies are fun!
yeah i hope it works out too….was told they have a 3 week turn around time…thats like a month before it gets back to me….

ohh did i tell that the center diff decided to crunch its internals ?…..well it did….slow bashing in the backyard….ran it up against a tiny bush, with front wheels off the ground….instead of going to over to it i decided to just gun it…guess it cant handle 6s lipo and brushless with all power going to the front LOL….doesnt matter though it wasnt working out anyway….sure it limited some wheelies, but it also made the front too light so the tires where spinning like crazy making the front tires look like slicks lol
got one of those tiny gopro cameras….gonna make a mount for it…should be good for some cool onboard videos….

In regards to your question about a better esc and motor. The tekin RX8 has gotten very good reviews, and seems to be a VERY solid combo. I think it is around $350. Just read some RC forums and google the thing to see if it’s what you are looking for.

i havent had any problems with my cc mamba max esc in my emaxx. thanks for the info for cheap lipos now i can pick some up and have some power.
is there a better brand of motor and ESC than castle creations….that is more reliable than CC ?
team novac has some heatsinks…but they dont list sizes…and the mamba monster is kinda big but their profiles is exactly what i want

finally got a chance to look at it….i carefully cut the business end up on the lipo, and it was one of the “tabs/wings” that had broken…and then from the look of it welded it self appart along the breakline
would one lipo disconnecting result in a fried ESC and or motor ?
was reading the forums and it seems like the mamba monster 2200kv kits have a tendency to catch fire….i hope mine was a v1 and they will swap it for something better
after a long talk with castle creations, they wanted the motor and ESC sent to them, i managed to get them to pay shipping 😈 , they dont like zippy or turniqy batteries as they get bad cells real fast, and can overload ESC…i call bullshit on that one…how can a lipo put out more voltage all of a sudden….each pack gives out 12.6v (3S fully charged, and quickly drops to 3.7)….he couldnt convince me….
is there a way to mod the ESC with a larger heatsink ?…..and the motor could probably benefit from a large heatsink too….any one know where i can find a heatsink with a 42mm bore ? i know castle creations makes a fan powered cooling solution….problem is that its fan based…and after 2seconds of bashing some little pepple or something gets in there and blocks the fan….it happens to their ESC which is fan based too…unless you put some insect netting or simelar on it to keep debris out OMG i forgot to clean ESC out before sending it …hope nothing was in there to void warrenty ….

Castle makes a great performance motor/esc but a bit on the fragile side.
quite good untill today
was over in the park running it….went through a set of batteries…loaded up a fresh set, and continued to bash around the park got some really high speed passes…..just before the end of the park i brake, and toss it into a skidding slide turning it around 180 with 50% power….car flip sideways over it self…..lands on its wheels…and wite smoke is pouring out of the car….i imidiatly think that its one of the lipo thats fucked up, and i want it out of the car ASAP incase it decides to catch fire (the whole car i plastic)
what i found is the nylon stocking stretched over the fan for the ESC is melted some what….the wires from battery is blackened, the motors cooling fins have turned color like when you heat steel….
motor never spun freely, you can definatly feel the magnets in there…but now theres quite a bit of resistance…..esc is prolly blown too
castle creatings is on holliday….i will contact them asap….if they blame me they have a 50$ for repairs of any ESC for any reason, and 45 for motor….just hope its a warrenty prob, and its just gonna cost shipping

ON BOARD GO-PRO CAMERA….whoops caps…sont know if my mount is too loose or whats causing the high amount of vibrations….
took some awesome crashes…but camera started recording small clips and stopping without notice….grrr saying low battery but it just got fresh ones ???
3s was pretty ok…..the crashes came with 6S and so did camera probs….
car would drive straight until a certain speed the all of a sudden pull left and hard….braking would sent it into windmill mode…and subsequently crash it
the rear tire tore a big gash in it….the right rear shock came appart and the special (yes its a special oring, those fuckers couldnt use a regular one like i got tons off nooo they have to use a special one…fuckers…had to sand 2 normal orings, wonder if it will hold) those stock traxxas tires arent worth shit if 6S is used….3S or 4S maybe fine….ohh well i got some bald nubies that will go on it instead.
