While you’re waiting for your Matadors……..
I thought I would share with you how I coped waiting for my Matadors. It’s a loooong story with a lot to learn. I started this thread back in June 2011 while still waiting, – and oddly enough it became one of the most viewed threads on this forum.
This is how it started:
As it happens, I am the lucky owner of a serious harem of nice guns. And I frequently visit my summerplace on the coast down south in Norway, where weather is the only restriction to my shooting….
Summernights are nice and light with sunset around 22hrs….:
So yesterday I quit Oslo for a few weeks. Fed up with my loooongish waiting for ED and friends to deliver I took 11 members of my harem with me.

As some of you may know, I test and review guns for our Norwegian forum, and this time a comparison of springers is on the agenda….
So go ahead and name them, from left to right…….
And yes. There will be a more in depth test of Lelya 090 who has got new glasses for the occasion…….. 😉

Tedd, – you certainly have a point and I will try to adjust…. 😉
But before I do that, – I’ll run a complete string through the other gun (no 2855) for comparison purposes….
I have compared my string with others I have, – and I must admit I have never seen anything like this at all coming from the factory….
I just compared the first 60 shots with one of my HW100s, – and apparently ED’s regulator deliver more consistent shot than that of HW. Still there is an extreme spread of about 30 fps though, – which if I’m not mistaken, would mean a theoretical drop in POI of some 2,5″ at 110 yds (according to chairgun) between high and low:
EDgun in red and HW100 in blue…….. 😀
Trygve, your shot string looks like you don’t have enough hammer spring tension for the hammer to keep the air valve open long enough to get a full charge of air thru it when the air tube has a full charge. As the gun comes off of the regulator, there is less pressure in the air valve housing so the lower HS tension can now keep the air valve open long enough to allow a full charge of air out.
Turn your hammer spring tension screw in about a ¼ turn and try again. Set the gun so it shoots 890-910 fps and try another shot string.
So finally !!! 😀

In the meantime and on request, – here’s the first shotstring from my Matador R3 no 2844…..
I must admit, one of the strangest shotstrings I have ever seen from a regulated airgun (I have chronied about 200 strings and have them on file):
Chronographed over my CED M2 under infrared light. Filled the gun to approx 220 bars as per ED’s video and started shooting. I kept going all the way to approx 80 bars (based on rifle pressure gauge).
I have not touched anything inside the gun, – so the factory setting still apply…..
While fairly even from shot 1 to shot 62, – what comes as a surprise is the second part of the string which looks much like the string of an unregulated gun. I got roughly 40 shots there, climbing from 850 fps up to 901 fps before coming back down and away…..
I am scratchig my head here a bit. I don’t know what pressure the regulator has been set at, – but it looks like the gun starts to behave much like an unregulated gun would as we approach reg settings and until there’s no more air…..
I’ll copy in strings from other guns for you to see the difference later. For now, all I want from you is comments please…….. 😉

PS: 850 fps with 18.1 grs JSB is approx 29 fpe………
PS 2: My CED M2 tends to be a little on the conservative side when measuring, – probably reading 10/15 fps lower than my other chronographs……

Thanks a lot for removing that Dekan, – it blew the forum layout and destroyed threads…… 😀
If you want to resize a picture, – you first save it on your computer. Then you may use almost any picture editor to resize it to your desired size.
I can highly recommend a small freeware program called “IrfanView” (Google it !). That’s what I use for all my images……. 😉

That said, – gun now adjusted to some 895 fps which means new shotstring coming up tomorrow……
Would have been nice with a curled nut on that hammerspring adjustment though. Easier to handle and easier to see exactly how much you turn. I have now marked different powersettings with a marker, – and you shall not turn it much before your fps go haywire…… 😯
First modest attemt (I thought) gave me 980 fps as a result …. 😉
900 fps with 18 grs JSB is normally about perfect for accuracy and gives approx. 32.5 fpe, – which is about perfect for my needs…. 😀
