Ranger 45
Well I have a tracking number for the Ranger 45 that was assembled, test fired, chronyed, and shipped today.
28 inch barrel, standard stock and black crerakote finish, $1230 dollars including shipping.
To early to get the arrival date, it is not in the system yet.
Chrony numbers were:
Round ball. low setting 3000 PSI……1018 FPS
225………. low setting 3000 PSI……..877 FPS
405 shot 1 hi setting 4500 PSI………804 FPS
340 shot 2 hi setting 4500 PSI………843 FPS
These numbers will improve by 30 to 50 FPS as the rifle breaks in.

That alloy site is considerably cheaper, especially when you consider the freight free shipping for over 100 bucks and the discount for over 60 dollar orders.
Would you consider #2 Lyman too hard for my application, 425 grains at 825 to 850 FPS and spray moly lube? I am not to interested in expansion, the 45 caliber slug seems to work well enough.

Time to start hitting up the tire shops for their wheel weights. I hear it is getting a bit harder to get WW these days.
Might try calling TheGunWorks in Springfield, and see what alloys if any they have available. I saw a selection of ingots in there a few years ago.
If I were buying the lead for this rifle only and no other P.B . I would not go that hard . And with the antimony the bullets will age harden on you as well . I would probable go with the 30 to 1 or the 25 to 1 . The bullets would age soften a bit if stored a long time .
I have 400 pounds of RFLR lead that I have melted down and it is 10 bhn . They shoot at around 1100-1400 fps no problems with leading and they are normally either molly or graphite coated as well . And expand well even for HP use .
I have over 1000 pounds of range lead that is 15 bhn .That I have no money into but a lot of work and that is why I use it . Great for paper would work for meat but not needed in our applications .Marvin

I sold all my casting stuf and gave most of my reloading shit to my boy.
So I have this mold coming and have been crunching the numbers by getting the prices out of a Midway catalog.
For a lyman entry level ladle pour furnace, and I do prefer to cast big slugs with a ladle, themometer, ladle, spray moly,ingot mold,cheap lee press and one 452 die, I like using the lee sizing approach, handles, and a electric scale, because you really need to weight them, anyway with all this stuff it came to 360 bucks or so.
Now after that I will need alloy, in order to by enough alloy to cast 425 grain bullets, I will need to spend close to $200.00 for freight and metal, to get to the break even point that I would be at if I spent that much money at $30.00 per 50 for store bought bullets.
So that is what 930 bullets or so to break even? After that it is about 10. bucks a box of 50.
At three shots per fill I will have to fill 311 times, I use around 700 PSI per shot, so that is…….
Mind boggling. 😯

Sounds like everything is there just need to get the barrel then the right bullets and you have one hell of a rifle!

Now after reading your post on how easy that rifle is to adapt and modify, what about a hot rod .25 or hot rod .30 caliber using that frame and tanks.????
i have talked to Dan about it and yes it is possible to do a 308 ranger style gun , and i am more than likely going to sell my samyang 909 with 308 barrel , to have Dan build me the 308 ranger very soon !
i could go with a corsair , but the ranger is built better ,and has more air to shoot more shots if you want a 36inch barrel like myself.
i think i will have Dan take a look down the barrel he is sending me with the action , just to make sure.

I am not into the soft lubes at all . A lot of work and mess . That is why I use the dry spray lubes . Even if I am resizing I use the dry lubes to resize then spray them again after I resize them . I do not think we need as much lube for several reasons as PB . But some forum of lube is needed IMO . And for what it is worth when I bought my mold from Vernal he said the same thing knowing that I was shooting AR .
I have recovered enough of my bullets that have been shoot at high speeds to know that what these men are saying is truth and applicable to AR . And as they state the terms soft or hard lead have no meaning in this day and age . No content no true meaning for any one to base a opinion on . If I do not hear a alloy mentioned as 30 to 1 or a bhn number stated then some one has a problem and it is not me . Marvin
Good that you got the barrel issue sorted out. Not only sorted out but you’ll be getting another barrel quickly. Sometime, shit happens but the end result is good customer service.
But hummmm? as for bullets that are supposed to be 452 and they come in 4 different sizes in one bag?……………

Dan posted a place that had cheap bullets and on the bottom of their page they listed their lead for 1.89 pound I think .
