Ranger 45
Well I have a tracking number for the Ranger 45 that was assembled, test fired, chronyed, and shipped today.
28 inch barrel, standard stock and black crerakote finish, $1230 dollars including shipping.
To early to get the arrival date, it is not in the system yet.
Chrony numbers were:
Round ball. low setting 3000 PSI……1018 FPS
225………. low setting 3000 PSI……..877 FPS
405 shot 1 hi setting 4500 PSI………804 FPS
340 shot 2 hi setting 4500 PSI………843 FPS
These numbers will improve by 30 to 50 FPS as the rifle breaks in.

Yes I know we do not deal with hot gases in airguns, but take a lead bullet and press hard down on a piece of blued steel, rub it back and forth hard, what does it do?
One of the tests for gold jewelery is to do the same thing with a hard stone and rub the gold on it, metal transfers to surfaces, I would think it woud do the same to ithe interior of a air gun barrel.

My experience with the Shoebox is that when it leaks, or does not pump up, most of the time it is the center oring in the lower cylinder is busted.
Tom is great about follow up as you have noticed.
I have a Booster pump, that is the way to go, you take a 3000 PSI tank and pump up the gun to 4500 PSI, you can use the Booster to take it as high as you want. I am still getting mine to be field portable, but when it is together, I will be able to get many fills from the back of my car anywhere and do it from one 44 cu fut tank with 3200 PSI or so in it.
But you can also use a second tank to first fill to 4000 PSI or so and then use the Booster to top it off.
I am thinking a 2×3′ package that is 8 inches thick and weighs 12 lbs or so, the SCBA tank will be the largest thing in it. If I can use and get enough fills with my 69 CUIN tank the entire package will be smaller.
You use the Shoebox to fill the tanks you use on the Booster, that way it does not get so much work, filling a 4500 PSI gun with a 4500 PSI tank is like filling a 3000PSI gun with a 3000 PSI scuba tank, it just does not give yo many fills.

Mellowroadman turned me onto the spray Moly, but truthfully I used to tumble it on jackected bullets I made years ago. I tried it with Black Powder, but it did not do much, but with these naked bullets we shoot, I think it is a good idea. It is hard to find in the Midway catalogue, I think it is under bore cleners or some obscure place, so I will look up the product number and get it to you. I just set the bullets up and sprayed them, so I am still experimenting with it.
I have decided to call the 408:
“Black Rogue.” 😆 😆 😛 😛
Nope, not really, how about 45408A, 45 caliber/408 grains/A for Accurate molds.

Thanks Charlie , that would be great ! 😆 i have to get some casting equipment like you have , and that mold set up , good job man ! 😀
had some problems with the shoe box , had a leak in the bottom of the billet block , the plug with the oring was leaking , so i took it apart and it looked good so i cleaned it up ,put it back together and it was sealed and good ,
then as i was pumping up a cylinder , i was pressurizing just the line so i could make sure the machine was charging right , it reached around 3900 psi , then all of a sudden it shot up past 4500 psi and then my hose got a hole burned /blown melted through it ! WOW ! DAM !
i called Tom up, and just as i figured there was type of ignition/expolsion/burning that went on, so i am going to send Tom a sample of the hose that fryed and a sample of the lithium white grease that i am using ,
now i have to go back in and rebuild the lower cylinder again , and get my nice new 6 ft north shore hose fixed !
i still have my 6 ft micro bore hose that is in working order , sucks when things go wrong , just glad i did not blow myself to hell tonight !
we have to have a way to charge these cylinders up , on demand if we are going to shoot these big bores a lot , so it’s testing the shoebox like crazy for me , i am one of the guys doing some testing for Tom since i now have well over 200 hours on my shoebox , i know some day we will have this thing dialed in more , it is just going to take time .

Looking darned good RC. I like those bullets with the moly coat on them. They look deadly…lol. Come one RC…you gotta give em a name like, “BLACK DEATH”, “BLACK WIDOWS”, “BLACK VIPERS”, or just “moly-whoppers”, HEYYYY, i like that one…..lol. OK OK, enough of my cornyness.
RC, can you give me some more info on the MOLY lube like the name of it, where did ya get it (midway usa or brownells), and what are the pros and cons of using it?

First I got to try the new 25 caliber Predator, I fired two shots, got two ground squirrels. They did not even twitch, wagged their tail a few times and that was it.
When I got home I found that my Brown Uniformed enabler had left me a package from Midway, mold handles, furnace, Moly Coat spray ect, everything to get me started casting.
I heated up the pot and made a few ingots after the oil burnt off and then slowly heated the aluminum mold. I cast for about an hour to break the mold in, then I got serious and started making a few bullets.
I did not get carried away in numbers, I wanted to see if these thing flew straight first.
I weighed a few slugs when they cooled, they dropped out at 408 grains cast from 20-1 alloy. The mold is touted as a 425 grain, but that is in 459 form, so that weight does make sence.
I gave them a light shot of Moly Coat spray and while that dried, I changed the screw in the hammer from Medium to high, right now I am only running one screw, I guess because I can if for no other reason.
I set up the Chrony at 15 feet and shot at a target at 20 yards. I only hit it once, then checked my scope over, the Burris 2×7 Fullfield is in medium double strapped rings, I found the rear base mounting screw was broken. I had another set, so I replaced the screw.
Oh I forgot, the two shots were 847 and 823 FPS with 408 grains. That is 655 FPE. The fill pressure was 4500 PSI.
Now that is what I am talking about ❗
But then I headed for the range, I fired two 5 shot groups at 50 yards, I only took a picture of one, they are roughly the same size. I filled between shots, because I was more into testing the bullet than the gun.
My first shot I aimed at the middle on the Sharpie circle, the next four I aimed right at the top because I could see it better, those four went into .93 the total 5 shot group was 1.25 inch.
So it has been a good day, the mold casts good bullets, they chamber differently that the other bullets do, it is like there is a little pressure to close the bolt, not much, just a bit, which tells me they are engaging the lands, perfect for what I want. And with my cheapie digital caliper they are measuring a full .452.
I am tired and it is beer thirty so thats all, like I said, a great day.

Quite the relief that you got what you wanted right off the bat with that first mold. Finding your Elk slug sure didn’t take long! That slug@850fps sounds like a plan.
Could that little bit of extra pressure to close the bolt been a result of the 20:1 alloy? I wonder if the same slug cast in pb+2%tin would go much faster…….then again they would likely come out unjdersized if 20:1 mic’d at .452

WOW ! that bullet works GOOD ! , looks like i need to order that casting set up , man with the 36 inch barrel i should be able to hit close to or right at 1000 fps after barrel break in , with that 400 + grainer you have right there 😆 .

Both of my 3200 scopes I have had to shim to use on the Condor, a 5×15 Tactical and the 7×21.
I could get out to 100 yards, but I was at the end of the adjustment. On the Ranger I am still a few inches low at 50 with all the adjustment used.
With the Burris 2×7, which will be the dedicated scope for the rifle, I still have two elevation knob turns left after a 50 yard zero, so maybe I will leave it as is. If I sound undecided it is just that perhaps putting the Bushnells on it for a little extra magnification just does not seem worth the effort, I mean it is a elk rifle after all not a lizard gun..
I don’t like to use more than one shim, it is a good way to tweak a scope and also to mar the tube with ring marks, I think I will just shim the bottom of the rear base instead if I do it at all.
Cheap. But then I have over 2 grand in all of this so not too cheap.
Wahoo, my mold handles, furnace and dipper and the rest of the stuff get in this afternoon.
Going to look for ground squirrels to kill with the 25 Predators today between drilling post holes for new grape vine training trellis’s with the Kobota and auger.
I hate digging post holes with a tractor and a auger, it is one of the most dangerous 3 point hitch attachments on a tractor, I have dug thousands in my lifetime by hand and with the walk behind power augers, but I prefer it over the clamshell and a shovel. Probably be too tired to cast when I get home.
Now if I could train the ground squirrels to do it 💡
And for sure I am working on training my wife to cast bullets, it is just I have to go unchain her to cook dinner because she does not cast willingly. 😆

Mostly all my scopes are shimmed. I have a pair of rings on 1 gun from MAC-1 which are 20 MOA and the other guns have a nice little piece of aluminum metal shim.
The shim should measure at .020″ thick.
does anyone know who makes or sells shin sung career exhaust valves ? my MK 300 decided to start leaking this weekend i took the valve out messed with it a bit but can not get it to seal correctly .
i talked to PA since i bought the gun from them , i have to send some pics to them , of the valve , so they can match it up- i hope .
still waiting on shipment from Dan on the ranger 36inch action .

I just want to use this scope on this rifle to test some loads, the 2×7 Burris will be the permanent scope. The 7×21 will everntually be on a higher end 22.
So I don’t want to spend a ton of money getting it to work.
