Q:

Tactical Sniper

Decided to bite the big bore bullet and ordered a Evanix Tactical Sniper in .357 last night the after santa 10% discount made it hard to resist.

I friend that I converted to air guns had just gotten a Rainstorm 3D bullpup, was a hoot to shoot so I had to get my own, didn’t want the same thing, couldn’t afford the semi autos so went with the sniper. :4:

Already trying to figure out how to make it more neighbor friendly 😯

Just got an email from Jim Chapman, he has a sniper for review. He’s on his way home from a hunting trip, anyway he was getting 1″ 3 shot groups at 75 yards with his.

so now why is mine so shitty in comparison??

more digging to be done

Starting to think that maybe part of the problem is the way the forearm is mounted to the gun – it uses the air tube and shroud to hold it in place 😯

and the barrel is mounted firmly in the shroud…….

once I get my pump working again I’ll try number of different things to see if I can’t isolate something…

Hunter supply is most likely your problem. There slugs are no good. Same problem I had with .25. Couldn’t hit a soft ball at 100 yards. Changed slugs and could hit it every time.

Thanks for chiming in there Doug, you’re right the HS bullets are shit for the most part.
Problem is most of the groups I’ve been shooting is with the JSBs

Think I’m dealing with multiple issues, just need to get each one sorted out for it to all fall together

😯 WTF!!! 😯 😕

My sentiments exactly Knife

😯 WTF!!! 😯 😕

Shot a few more strings over the Chrony before the pump gave out (4 year old Benjamin, time for a rebuild I think)

any who first string JSB’s
870 200 BAR
873
872
864
853
empty shot
816 145 ish BAR

second string
883 200 BAR
872
868
853
823
816 150 BAR

I made no adjustments in between those strings.
as a reminder this the first string I got with the current settings
860 200 BAR
874
881
882
empty
868
857 150 BAR

looks like something is moving, things breaking in? looks like its time to re-tune
going to put a order in and McMaster for a number of uncut springs (20″) so I can play with length and strength

none of those strings would explain why I’m getting the vertical stringing I am or the side to side movement.
I tried shooting the gun “loose” like a springer and it still performed poorly
at short range 25 yards or less it will make one big hole, stretch it out to 50 and it looks like crap

one inch squares, aiming for red square

Does this gun have a built in power wheel? Or can I only just adjust the power inside the gun? Sorry didn’t have time to read every post yet but it.looks sexy 😉 how many shots are you getting per fill?

Sounds like your starting of with a little bit of valve lock.

It looks like they named that airgun incorrectly.

Sounds like you need some earplugs or something. :2cents:

Shot a string at 50 yards with a free floating barrel and not shroud, ouch my ears are still ringing

I had lots of vertical stringing, about 4″ top to bottom. 😯

First shot was lowest, second higher and third highest, forth shot was right next to the first, at this point I stopped.

side to side the shots where less than 1/2″ apart – which is encouraging

I think I need to work on my valve setup some more

I also think my pump might be going, thinking it might be time for a rebuild 🙄

going to try a couple of more things before I resort to surgery
but it is on the table now

Give it a shot with the re-crowning. Can’t hurt! 😉

well tonight shooting didn’t backup the other, so back to the drawing board…..

I sorted all my HS 95 gr bullets by weight, now I think I might need to sort them on looks as well, some look pretty shitty.

sorted some JSBs, didn’t do any better than the unsorted ones.

I can see a “ring” in side the barrel, I think it might be pitting as it doesn’t go away with a good cleaning.

Sent an email to Evanix in the hopes they might offer something

I get descent grps at 25 yards from the JSBs an HS, not sure if a re-crown would gain me anything or not.

If Evanix doesn’t do anything a a re-crown don’t help I might try either a TJ in .357 or a LW in 9mm, hate to throw money at a problem but I need a good accurate rifle
