Q:

EDgun Matador, caliber .30, second generation.

Dear friends,

Some of you has problems with the valves on these guns. I have to confess that is my fault. The point is that I made heavier hammer in order to get more power, but left the valve rod the same diameter, 2 mm. So, when the hammer impact the valve, its inertion doesn’t allow the valve to move properly “forward and back” and the rod has too strong force and due to that force can curve.

Once again, that is my fault as the designer and engeneer of this gun. Sorry for that. I’ve ordered new 3 mm. hardened, polished rods (to tell you truth that is a kind of quest to find them, there is no one in Russia, I’ve ordered them from EU and they promissed me to deliver them in February). As soon as I have them I will make new valves and the valve guide to change in the back plug. I think that is quite easy operation which can be done by owner himself. Besides I will make a vid for that.

Sorry for that disadvantage, as you say “He is lifeless that is faultless.”

I will do my best to solve it as soon as possible.

With the best regards

Ed

Interesting. How much does your spring less valve weigh if you know?

DT

Dan,

I expect that the 3mm raindrop valve will be around 3,4 grams.
So I would start with a light hammer & spring for sure, otherwise the pellet will go supersonic & the hammer will hit the bronze nut.
When it’s ready I’ll send the valve to Brian for testing.

I’m looking for a good picture of the valveseat inside the valvehousing,
The place at the arrow is what I’m looking for. I want to know the shape of it.

Dan,
I will weight it after work.
Nicely made by Robert.

Endo

Without a spring fitted care should be taken not to drop off the reg, you will destroy the brass valve guide as the pressure drops off.. you will need a much higher reg setting too.
With a correctly set up hammer system there is no need to run a your reg any higher than 130-135bar for the best consistancy and shot count.
Good luck trying to fill it from empty too..

Ed; do the right thing for your customers and do the job right by re designing the .30 valve and hammer set up to be stronger.
A heavier valve and longer/stronger hammer spring is a good place to start.

Chat to Ted “Old goat” he has been down this road already building a .25 cast bullet shooter on a .30 cal matador. Ask him how many valves hes destroyed already..

I think 2,5 grams.
All of my valves are in guns.
But I think Endo has one out of his gun.
Maybe he can weight it?

Regards, Robert.

I shot 1500 times now with the 2mm spring-less valve rod at 150 bar and 100 joule +.
It is still working perfectly.
Due to (a lot) less hst I do not think it is necessary to go 3mm.
It must be hardenened, but that should they both be anyhow.

Regards, Robert.

Do you have the heavy hammer?

DT

Nope,
I use the standart hammer.
The heavy hammer might weight to much to go spring-less.
edit: due to its weight it will hit the bronze nut faster.

Regards, Robert.

I find it strange to have a 2mm stem on a .30. My .177 cricket has a 3mm stem…

Leo,
do you have a 3 mm valve like that? I saw Robert showed a raindrop valve.

Ed,

forget that heavy bronze valve now you don’t use the valvespring anymore. On a 3mm rod you can use POM without problems.
If you make the shape of the valve like a half raindrop with the thick (round) end at the pressuretube side, you’ll get another few procents of extra power.

ATB, Leo

Easy guys, sorry for the delay with the reply. Still waiting for the 3 mm rods. But all what is happened is to happen that way. I mean, I decided that it will be better to change not only the valve, but the back plug and the hammer spring screw. The point is that we made many test with the new valve without the spring and it shows quite a good results. So there will be new valves without the spring on it, that allows to reduce the hammer spring tensin and the old design screws doesn’t meet it, as it should be screwed down 3-5 turns, the old one is too short for it.

So, when I am ready. I will announce it, you will contact me directly and I will send the details to your address directly from Russia. For those who cannot do reinstalling himself I agreed with John to help me with it.

With the best regards

Ed

Ok so Ed also contacted me
He is supposed to contract a machines there locally in the United States
To drill our guns professionally with the right equipment but

Ed. HAS NOT RESPONDED!!! Yet he was given a quote 3days ago and has not paid or even replied Ed

DO NOT DISAPPOINT LET US KNOW
Are u contract him and you are supposed to send him valves
Have u received the 3mm rod yet?

Mika I lowered my regulator pressure to 135 bar with the new 3mm valve and I am now getting 28 shots on regulator. I used to get 18-20 shots. I still want to play with the regulator a little more because I think I can get the ES a little lower.

Hi Keyser yes it’s a great solution .
I’m happy for you And all the guys.
When everthing is OK make some news vidéos with this accurate gun like you do before.
Thanks for all your good job with the .30.
Very interesting to learn on this forum.
