Re: Matador Reg kit to get .25 34gr JSBs up to speed

The EDgun regulator is one of the best in the world. It is straightforward and efficient. The regulator is capable of almost 1 FPS extreme spread. Wingman did an excellent video where he showed that variation is caused by external factors, not the regulator. So the Huma advantage comes from its low profile, this gives more volume in the plenum. I would put it on par with the Edgun regulator regarding efficiency

In the standard, the speed I can achieve realistically is 790 to 810 with the Huma and 34s. The long will hit about 830 max. I don’t like the current set up, and I would like to run the regulator at 120 and get speeds of 880 in the long with 34s. I have some ideas how to do it, and Wingman is going to help.

So be patient I am working on a solution to get more speed and not redline the capability of the Matador

How will you explain the fact that TJ uses 1:22 twist rate in .25 and 1:26 in .30?

The same reason as FX ST wont.. it works out to be about 1-40″ twist.. they wont hold stable ( for tight repeatable groups) past 100-150y
I have tested both TJ 1-14″ and 1-22″ but the 5 groove bullet designed bore does nothing for the BC of a diabolo pellet.

L/W…………. TJ……………. BSA

How will you explain the fact that TJ uses 1:22 twist rate in .25 and 1:26 in .30?

:angrymob: The real question is Why you gotta tease us with that lonestar barrel wingnutz?

No, Ed doesnt use “standard LW barrels” as they have a 1-17.7″ twist rate and wont stabilise the heavy JSB pellets at long range.

May I know why?

Why what?
Why was Ed was smart enough to have L/W make him various twists to test the best twist rates for the 18.1gr .22 pellet at 930fps long ranges in 2011 when he was designing the R3?

Or why the 34gr .25cal pellet is too long and heavy to remain stabilized for long ranges at 900+fps in a std 1-17.7″ twist rate?

A better question is why is the recorded BC of this pellet higher when shot from Eds barrel than when it is shot from a std L/W barrel or even higher still when shot from a BSA barrel..

I did continue to shoot… 34 shots on the gong next to the paper at 202y. That gong is about 3″x 4″ and all but 2 pellets were inside about 2.5″
3 shots is the international military std for a MOA group at any range.

I considdered building my long range rig on my cricket but although the plenum and power can be increased without the need for over 130bar reg setting it also required a new faster barrel and didnt have the added bonus of a built in 20MOA rail like the matador does.
The cricket has a 1-450mm twist rate (1-17.7″) which you will find will stabilise the 34gr heavies at 900fps+ ok to about 150y but they fall apart after that.. you will probably find that your gun shoots the kings better at 100 to 200y.
If you are lucky enough to find a vintage BSA barrel they have a 1-400mm twist (1-15.8″) and the barrels groove and lands design seems to accept more speed without effecting accuracy and lend themselves for a perfect tube transplant for the 34gr .25cals on a power capable platform.

The faster twist Edgun 1-410mm (1-16.1″) seemed the obvious choice to build a drop in kit for all to enjoy this new long range capability.

The Edgun trigger is great, it can be set to a 2 stage or single stage from about 2lbs to a fly fart.. I laugh when I hear guys say the Edgun trigger is shit.. they are easily tuned as good as my Steyr trigger when you know what you are doing.

I will go into pellet prep in my upcoming vid.

Nice Wingman. I wish you would have taken a few more shots on that group. You know, take the pictures and all with the 3 shot group and then attempted more. Are you sorting pellets for these long ranges? I shoot the .25 34 gr from a Cricket bullpup. It has an added plenum tube installed and I ported the firing valve. I am now shooting at 900 fps (reg at 130 bar) but with adjustments it can achieve 960. With unsorted 34 grainers I shot a 1.25″ 5 shot group yesterday from 135 yards. I finished the 12 shot mag and ended up with a 3.25″ group.
I’ve never shot an Eddy. I know the Cricket trigger can be tuned really nice. How about the Eddy two screw trigger. What is the pull weight on a good two stage tuned to a reliable light pull?

Only the best PCP scope on the market 🙂
Tac Vector Optics 4.5-18 x 50.
Mil mil and side focus down to 10yds. perfect airgun reticle and supported by strelok.
I’ve spent big money on many big name scopes and can honestly say the German glass in these scopes are clearer than some of my $2000 high end european scopes.
I own 8 of these now and have them on all my rimfires and PCPs. Outstanding quality for under $200usd.
Try one.. I guarantee you will buy one for each of your guns.

Wingman, what is that scope you’re using? Looks perfect on the Maddy

This is all with standard LW barrels, right?

My first 1/2 MOA I shot was quite a while ago with my R3 .25cal Long and an early version of this kit that used a much higher reg pressure and didnt get the high velocities this kit gets.

My current high power Matador complete with the final version of this HP plenum kit is actually a shorty but it’s set up on a long tube until my .25cal shorty arrives in a couple of weeks… It is “NEXT LEVEL ACCURATE” I have the reg is set at 135bar spitting the 34gr heavies at 965fps although this custom rig has a few other tricks up its sleeve that I will disclose in an upcoming video.

I got up at stupid O clock this morning to beat the spring winds and was rewarded with about an hour of prime testing with no wind at all..
The result had me staring at my gun and targets in utter disbelief… I actually sat at my bench just staring at it for 10 minutes!

The gong is at 100y and has 3 shots dead centre..

3 Shots at 202 yards got me under 1/2 and inch but I chickened out sending 5 shots in case I pushed my luck..

I did however empty my air on the sighting gong beside my 202 yard target.. not one single flyer.. all connected inside about 2.5″ with fairly rapid shooting and only trying to hit the gong not shoot for groups..

Wingman, you achieved sub-MOA grouping with the power kit and a standard Matador barrel, right?

When you have a matador on its way and already planning out how to fux it up :biggrinn:

Thanks guys :8:
