Re: Matador Reg kit to get .25 34gr JSBs up to speed

The EDgun regulator is one of the best in the world. It is straightforward and efficient. The regulator is capable of almost 1 FPS extreme spread. Wingman did an excellent video where he showed that variation is caused by external factors, not the regulator. So the Huma advantage comes from its low profile, this gives more volume in the plenum. I would put it on par with the Edgun regulator regarding efficiency

In the standard, the speed I can achieve realistically is 790 to 810 with the Huma and 34s. The long will hit about 830 max. I don’t like the current set up, and I would like to run the regulator at 120 and get speeds of 880 in the long with 34s. I have some ideas how to do it, and Wingman is going to help.

So be patient I am working on a solution to get more speed and not redline the capability of the Matador

Yes you can get 900 in the shorty with 135 to 140bar but it would be better to run the shorty at 130 to 135bar at 880 to 890 for better air usage.

Yes Huma will hold stock too.

quote Wingman NZ:

It will work fine in all the different length matadors but the shorty wont have a very big shot count.
Personally I will be running this kit in a .25 shorty.

OK, but what about energy level? Will I be able to achieve around 900FPS with shorty?

Brian will let you know here when the power kits are in stock.

Will I be able to buy them directly from Huma? It is more convenient for me as I am based in Europe.

No, I made a second prototype, (the one in the vid) and have finalised the hammer weight design and position testing to give the least loadings on all parts so the design is finalised and in production.

Are you guys still planning on making adjustments to the prototype?

The results seem to be promising. Wingman, how do you feel your kit will behave in Matador .25 short?
Could you provide us a general availability date?

Knowing this is going into production this has given me even more of a push for me to buy an Ed in .25.
Very nice work.

How would I compare the 44gr .30? I wouldnt.. they dont compare..

It is a complete drop in kit.. no mods to your gun and completly reversable/interchangable with what ever your current set up may be.
I am opposed to mods that destroy parts and cant be returned to its present form. If a part needs modifying then it needs to be made from scatch for the job.
I have seen some cringe worthy mods to pcps that render the gun completly worthless in my opinion.

Stand by for full vid..

The 34 grain .22 if in an EDgun magazine

quote Wingman NZ:

Thanks guys.. the hammer weight is there to increase valve dwell time to use the added regulated plenum space.
You dont need the crazy high reg settings to get the high velocities with the heavy pellets.. we were just attempting destruction tests but failed to break anything.
The highest velocity with the heavies is achieved at 140 bar and there is no reason to go any higher than that, in fact I recommend you dont.
Depending on your gun you will only need a setting of 125 to 135bar to get 890 to 930 with the heavies.
My R3 long its tuned to 900 with kings with the reg set at 120bar, fitting this kit and setting the Huma to 130bar gave me 905fps with heavies without touching the HST.

The kit livens up the Matador like you wouldnt believe.
Brian is right, it feels like you are shooting a .22lr.
I get a B.C of .058 and have shot some of the best 100y groups I’ve ever shot with a PCP with the 34gr JSBs. I have done some very promising 200 yard tests but the spring winds here have been crazy this year.

I have also been cutting up the local starling and mynah population with it. The resulting scope cam footage is unfortunately just too graphic to share on my channel..
Im sure Brian will agree, the 34s are effective fast moving killers.

For the Gen 1 .30cal R3 owners having trouble with broken valves etc I am 99% sure this kit will sort out your issues too.

Good stuff Wingman. How would you compare these to the 44gr .30 for BC and long range accuracy?

I have also noticed on my Gen 1 .30 that the heavy hammer with reduced reg pressure also works great. I think Ed over cooked the reg setting and undersized the valve stems on that design but that’s another story as we all know 😉

Will “the kit” also include the hammer weight or was that just for testing? I assume everything for the most part will be drop in?

Also, I would really love to see what you can make the .22 34gr pellets do with this kit. I don’t have a .22 Ed so not sure if they would fit in the mags or not. Probably a single shot scenario.

DT

Yes a little but not enough to change anything other than the feel.. its a heavier pellet and about 35% more wind up its skirt… “for every action there is a reaction”

Does the kit increase the amount of recoil felt vs stock?

The high BC 34gr JSBs at 900 to 910fps seem to out shoot the kings in my barrel when the weather cooperates heres a typical 5 round group at 50 yards and 100 yards.

The spring weather has been bringing relentless wind here so testing at 200+yards has been impossible. However I decided to send 10 shots out to 230 yards in the wind to show the consistency you can expect when shooting the 34gr JSBs at 900fps even with this crazy gusty weather blowing from about my 4 o’clock from my bench.
Take note of the lack of flyers in this group unlike the 25.4gr kings at this range that you may have seen for yourself or can see in some of Eds long range balloon shooting vids.

Awesome sauce!! :8:

Great mod guys and thanks for all your efforts!

Regards,

DT
