Re: Matador Reg kit to get .25 34gr JSBs up to speed

The EDgun regulator is one of the best in the world. It is straightforward and efficient. The regulator is capable of almost 1 FPS extreme spread. Wingman did an excellent video where he showed that variation is caused by external factors, not the regulator. So the Huma advantage comes from its low profile, this gives more volume in the plenum. I would put it on par with the Edgun regulator regarding efficiency

In the standard, the speed I can achieve realistically is 790 to 810 with the Huma and 34s. The long will hit about 830 max. I don’t like the current set up, and I would like to run the regulator at 120 and get speeds of 880 in the long with 34s. I have some ideas how to do it, and Wingman is going to help.

So be patient I am working on a solution to get more speed and not redline the capability of the Matador

Yes. My gun’s a long and roughly, the differential from the most inaccurate to most accurate speed was only around .2″ @ 50 yds (862-910 fps). The pellet variety seemed to have more accuracy impact. I have 3 tins of red label MK II which are all different, purchased in the last 2 years. Shallow skirt, thin wall/shallow skirt, and a deep skirt (like Edgun 34g but larger ID). Then add the Edgun 34g, to make a total of 4 selections in my possession. There is an obvious differential in head size also (this can be seen through magazine loading and breech feed)…this will be my next testing process to find best head diameter, when sorting gauge arrives. In conversation with Brian, I think there is a trend towards 890-910 fps being most accurate for the long.

I don’t have another Ed barrel to compare mine to, however, I have pushed pellets down many .25 barrels and the Ed barrel I have is tight from lead-in to choke. Granted the 34 gr MK1 is known to be a tighter fit, but I find is too tight for my liking. Hoping the MK2 is a better choice for this barrel. I should receive them this weekend.

Not really. Usually a slightly better performance may be expected from a higher velocity with King Heavies but I am sure it does not make a day and night difference in most cases, esecially if we are talking about speed differences within 10ms. Here is how King Heavy (240ms) grouped in Matador at JSB factory (2015):

As of my experience:
– King Heavy shoots terrible in my Ed’s short, lightly choked barrel (2017) at 235ms. It also shoots terrible at 265ms. I don’t think there is much improvement if any,
– King Heavy shoots not bad in nefarion Ed’s standard, tightly choked barrel (2014) at 235ms. It shoots a little better at 265ms. A couple of mms of improvement in grouping at 50 meters.

My conclusion is if your pellet shoots like a crap (not group at all at 50m) it is unlikely that 10ms will make a huge difference. I tested a lot of different barrels in EDgun and I can tell you that ED’s system is capable of producing the groups better than you can shoot but the barrels usually destroy its potential especially in .25.

271 mps to 276 mps or the equivalent ( 889 fps to 905 fps ) looks like the desired speed you want for Eds barrels for the heavies.

I do not think the new, light choke is more JSB Heavy friendly. Just look at my results. In order to check the choke – you need to push a pellet through the bore.

To catch you up on my power tune experience, I have a 2014 .25 Std Matador R3M which has a tight choke. I reset HST to produce 890 fps again and it took more than a full turn less. It is a smoother shot cycle and seems more efficient on air (I’ll be doing a shot string when more pellets arrive).

I’ve yet to get real serious with accuracy but the MK1 pellets just seems too tight for my bore. Accuracy seems just okay. I have some MK2 pellets on the way and will do more testing with them.

All you got was an extra 15 fps? Your gun sounds like it might have been made in the same 2014 batch as mine. I’m having my TPs and throat opened up, so I’ll post an update for comparison when I get the parts back.

No you will not gain much. The rotary port I was referring to was the TP located just in front of the barrel

Yes, a rotary port is more efficient. This is why they are used on the .30 caliber. Phil and I talked about it but I didn’t want to offer a kit that required machining

That was for the std, for the Short 880-890 fps …….

I’ve seen groups tighten up within 5fps, but don’t kwow about what you’ve seen.

What? Why? Cannot get higher in shorty. It is maxed out. Reg set at 150 bars – I have a tester. I do not believe that 5 ms more can make a big difference.
