Re: Matador Reg kit to get .25 34gr JSBs up to speed

The EDgun regulator is one of the best in the world. It is straightforward and efficient. The regulator is capable of almost 1 FPS extreme spread. Wingman did an excellent video where he showed that variation is caused by external factors, not the regulator. So the Huma advantage comes from its low profile, this gives more volume in the plenum. I would put it on par with the Edgun regulator regarding efficiency

In the standard, the speed I can achieve realistically is 790 to 810 with the Huma and 34s. The long will hit about 830 max. I don’t like the current set up, and I would like to run the regulator at 120 and get speeds of 880 in the long with 34s. I have some ideas how to do it, and Wingman is going to help.

So be patient I am working on a solution to get more speed and not redline the capability of the Matador

Heavies 34g, faster …… 270mps.

~ Greg

Heavy MKII
867fps/264ms
50m indoor
R3M STD stock
The group is not that bad, but the pellets fly very unstable

Here is what I got at 50 meters, indoors at the speed of 265ms with heavies:

Ed’s barrel with a light choke.

Thanks for posting your results. So you mean that the gun was accurate even at 862FPS, right? I am maxing out the shorty at about 870FPS. That should be enough, I guess.

OK guys…this is my gun but may offer some comparative results, you may find useful. With reference to accuracy, from best to worst, @ velocities from 862 to 910 fps:
MK II-.51″ average @ 50 yds, 1.16″ @ 100 yds…BC=.0491
Edgun 34g-.59″ @ 50 yds…BC=.0497
MK I-.62″ @ 50 yds…BC=.0510
*These results are a product of approximately 150 (5) shot groups and results being identical through the range of velocities. All were out of the tin.

Because I have heard such a large range of results, for BC using 33.95s (from .0650-.0480)…guys remember to get your environmental inputs correct when calculating BC. Especially temperature/altitude…as an example, .0470 BC @ 70 F is approximately .0515 if you have a temperature entry of 30 F. Incorrect altitude entry has a similar result. This may account for the useless misinformation, even taking different guns into account.

WingMan ………… 😥

I’m using these.

Amazing setup.

I also have MKI pellets together with three different batches of MKII. No worries, I will test them all with the increased speed soon. I am interested if there will be any improvement in the grouping.

Brian, I tested heavies at low speed and then I am going to test them at high speed. No worries. Please do not be offended.

quote shooter3:

I’ve tested JSB King Heavies MKII in Ed’s lightly choked barrel. The speed was 235ms. The accuracy at 50m is horrible. Do you think bumping the speed up should tighten the groups down?

Just a thought 😉 looking back through the first posts Wingman appeared to be using the JSB ‘mark 1’ heavies in.25 and not the mark 2’s that you are using :4:
From your results there may be a difference between the two ? Sizing, length etc ?
It just seems the ED barrel doesn’t like the mark two’s, but I could be wrong. Anyone else using the mark 2’s successfully?

Shooter3 the entire point of this thread is in the title. Do you really thing Wingman an I would go through all this work if we were satisfied with the 34-grain pellet shooting the speed you listed? Why on earth would you post photos of a gun that is not shooting the 34 grain to speed? At this point, I am wondering if you’re just trolling?

Any accuracy testing?

New chronograph arrives tomorrow so I took my old one apart and cleaned it up like new. It was windy but sunny today. I tried to collect some data at the muzzle and at 50. My chronograph was still getting tons of errors so it actually took a couple hours to get 10 readings at both points. Result is that the forum is yet again correct. BC from my R3M STD .25 for the 33.95s is right at .053. Avg velocity is 895. I did play with the HST a little as the readings today were very different from last week. My gun appears to top out at around 910 but the sound and air consumption said it would be happier backed off a bit. As it turns out I think I am within a 1/4 turn of where I landed last week.

I’ll confirm muzzle velocity tomorrow but I am feeling pretty solid with the results today. First time I ever calculated BC… Thanks for the pointers guys.

Joe

You mean like my groups with 1.65g Kings?

quote So What:

The grouping of my shotgun with buck 00 looks very similar at 50 meters.

Haha, good one!

Well, it would hurt top try them at a higher speed, but maybe your barrel just doesn’t like them. I get decent grouping at 50yds with the heavies from ~730fps to 890fps (haven’t tried faster yet).

Well more than “MOA” to me it looks more like “Measels” but enough said I don’t want to be the cause of “the wrath of the gods”… (I could get banned for having said this…)

The grouping of my shotgun with buck 00 looks very similar at 50 meters.
