Re: Matador Reg kit to get .25 34gr JSBs up to speed

The EDgun regulator is one of the best in the world. It is straightforward and efficient. The regulator is capable of almost 1 FPS extreme spread. Wingman did an excellent video where he showed that variation is caused by external factors, not the regulator. So the Huma advantage comes from its low profile, this gives more volume in the plenum. I would put it on par with the Edgun regulator regarding efficiency

In the standard, the speed I can achieve realistically is 790 to 810 with the Huma and 34s. The long will hit about 830 max. I don’t like the current set up, and I would like to run the regulator at 120 and get speeds of 880 in the long with 34s. I have some ideas how to do it, and Wingman is going to help.

So be patient I am working on a solution to get more speed and not redline the capability of the Matador

I have installed about 10 of these kits in everything from shorts to longs. There are slight variations from gun to gun. I think some hammer springs are stronger than others. I just did a standard and set the reg at 135, and it was below the first peak at 905. Try 150 on the Huma; it won’t hurt anything, I ran mine as high as 170 when I was working on the prototype. Another thing you can do is verify the Huma sticker settings.

Wouldn’t the first peak of each reg pressure setting be independent from the variation in hammer spring strength? I’m worried about the shot count and noise level at 150bar.

Also, I just tested the Huma regulator with a reg tester and the markings are within 3-4 bar (Huma markings = 135bar; reg tester = 140bar).

I installed the kit in my .25 R3M standard. With the huma reg set at 135 bar, I’m only getting 870 fps with 34gr Kings before I go over the first hump on the HST adjustment curve. At 140 bar, it’s maxing out at 880 fps on the first hump. What do you guys think is happening? Or is this the limit of the R3M standard?

I got mine from Brian at EdgunWest, but yes that looks just like the kit I installed. I just put 50 consecutive shots on the spinner at 108 yards off one fill. Scientific?.. NO. I am pleased though. Looking forward to getting the 34s. I’ll post my non-scientific results when they arrive.

Poster this on the other site too.

I now have the power plenum installed in my .25 STD R3M. I still have a bunch of 25.4s so I backed the HST way off with the reg at 130Bar. Too soon to say much, but I can tell you the second shot before backing off the HST was SS. After backing off the HST I am back to 900 and rezeroed. Rebuilt the whole gun while installing the kit and now I am anxious to get the 34s in a day or two. I have not shot groups in a while now, but it still tags the spinners at 108 yards in my back yard :winkn: minute of acorn at 75 :biggrinn: The sound is different on the shot. It is more of a pfffffffff sound than a soft bark. I am going to check shots/fill today. My POS chrony is so unreliable at picking up the pellets I will not be posting a full charted string… just summary data.

So far I am very encouraged. After cleaning and polishing/lubing the entire trigger I was questioning if the Edgun could get any better. The sound of the shot is more pleasing on current tune… so yes it can. The degree of flexibility in tuning is hugely different with the kit. More later.

Aftermarket HST here.

For those of you looking at the Huma Reg kit of a 22 Matador, I purchased one and installed it. Easy install, increased velocity to about 880 fps with the 22 cal. 25.39 JSB’s.
I currently have the OEM HST with the O-ring mod to keep the tensioner from moving. With the Huma regulator installed I was unable to keep the HST from backing out after three or four shots so I was unable to test accuracy. Just a heads up I’ll need an after market tensioner. As always your mileage may vary.

I wonder if 200 will be the new 100 after these kits are released and owners begin posting MOA groups at 200 yards.

Wingman, if you want to test the twist rates and bore dimensions properly you must think about a representative sample. E.g. if you want to test a twist rate X with bore dimensions Y against pellets Z then I would test 5 barrels with the exact same configuration and make the conclusion. The reason for that is the fact every barrel is different even if it is made in the exact same methodology in the same factory. I had a lot of EDgun barrels shooting like shit and I also had a couple of them shooting accurately despite the fact they were manufactured to the same ED’s rigid standards.

If you have questions regarding Eds guns maybe you should email him and ask personally?

All I doing here is answering questions relating to about 15 years of testing and experimenting with many pcps and pellets.
I can tell you with 100% conferdence that it is the pellet variation rather than barrel variation that causes most head aches.
I have no intention of developing and testing barrels for any given pellet, that is up to the big PCP companies to step up to should the maret demand it.
I think you need to go back to the start of this thread and read it again.
My motive for this build was an extension of my goal to shoot the new 34gr .25 pellets inside MOA at 200-300y.

Brian was also very keen to shoot thes pellets well in a matador so the power plenum was born.
We have made this kit available to anyone who also wants to shoot these pellets with a new found long range consistancy.
The Edgun barrels twist is suitable to do this and the power kit makes it possible. All other brands of barrels Ive tested have not got any real consistancy at 200y appart from the vintage BSA.

Dont let my results stop you or anyone else doing the same tests or further development of any long range project.
All I can say as I very happy with my results and have to intention to go any further with it as it does more than I expected of it.
I know other users will also love this kit and I look forward to hearing others feedback and seeing the results.

How do you know that?!

If I start a company, the first thing I will do is extensive barrel research followed by tight cooperation with some leading barrel producer and pellet maker. Without achieving a perfection in accuracy with a couple of scientific publications published, I would not even think about mass production.

So when are you shipping your product and how much will it cost? We ae assuming it will have a lifetime guarantee and that your customer service will be instantaneous and always favor the customer, even if the customer is that cause of the problem.
